Khaplu Palace locally known as Yabgo Khar (meaning, "The fort on the roof"), is an old fort and palace located in Khaplu at an altitude of 2600 meters. The palace, considered an architectural heritage and a tourist attraction, was built in the mid-19th century, replacing an earlier fort located nearby. It served as a royal residence for the Raja of Khaplu.The palace was constructed with the help of Kashmiri and Balti craftsmen. A section of residential area is being used as a hotel, operated by Serena Hotels. Town of Khaplu is administrative district of Ghanche district. The territory of Khaplu not focused on a single large river valley, but is spread over three valleys of Shayok, namely on the territory of the present town Khaplu, the valley of Thalle River and the Hushe / Saltoro valley. Near Khaplu, there are orchards on the right side and forests on the left. It is the coldest place in the northern areas. During winters, the temperature here can drop down to -20 degree celsius, with the region often referred to as the “third pole.
