Gilgit Baltistan

Land of Glaciers & Mighty Peaks

Gilgit – Baltistan are basically two regions of northern Pakistan. Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Yasin along with many of their sub valleys compromise Gilgit, while Skardu, Shigar & Ghanche is called Baltistan.

Baltistan lies in northeast of Pakistan, bisected by Indus River, with main block of Karakorams rising in serried wall – 150km wide with 100 peaks rising above 7000m on its Northeren bank  while Deosai on its Southern Bank – uninhabited high altitude plateu. Baltistan is actually a high altitude desert rising from 1500m to 8611m at summit if K2, offers some of the best trekking and mountaineering in the world.

Gilgit on the other hand lied on the crossroads of many empires and has been inhabited for thousands of years, alongside its wide river valleys in the west (Ghizer) and upon its gigantic slopes in the north (Hunza) – irrigated by dozens of mini & mega glaciers.

This whole region is culturally rich, historically ancient and geographically significant due to its central position on silk route between China, Central Asia & Persia.

With the opening of several Luxury Resorts, Gilgit Baltistan is also a sensation in leisure tourism. Nedlesss to mention its colours of Fall and Spring contrasting dramatically against sky-touching  icy peaks, makes its a utopia for landscape lovers and photographers.

Endangered species like Snow Leopard, Marcopolo Sheep, Golden Eagle, Ibex & Markhor are still inhabiting its high altitude meadows and wild gorges.
